“The River Flowing Westward” documentary, which was prepared by the Civilization Study Center (MEDAM) and its president, Prof. Dr. Bekir Karlığa, with the cooperation of Bahçeşehir University Communication Faculty, will be shown at Columbia University. The filming of the documentary began four years ago and was completed with gathering of around 200 scientists in 16 different countries, with the latest technological graphics and facilities. It has 20 video sections of 45 minutes each. The documentary can also be found in short and long versions. It begins with telling of the story of wealthy Mesopotamia soil and the Anatolian region. This documentary is the first of its kind to represent this long story in an objective way.
It has been called a peace-oriented project and the most comprehensive documentary about civilization by many international thinkers. It has been shown on Turkish channel TRT and will continue being shown on major channels, such as BBC, of 20 other countries.
“The River Flowing Westward” premiere was held at Columbia University on Tuesday, 27 March 2012. It will continue to be shown at other universities as well.
Bahçeşehir University Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Enver Yücel, stated that, as a university, two very important documentaries had been shot for the future of peace and it is highly crucial that these documentaries be watched by many cultures. In particular, the “Turkish Passport” proves the way Turkish people welcome cultures without being judgmental or having prejudices over cultures, languages, religion or races. “The River Flowing Westward” represents how civilization was born in and spread from Mesopotamia to the whole world. It aims to teach people the lesson that none of civilization’s cultures were born by alone, and each and every one is a continuation of another. Mr Yücel, in this context, said that “The more scientists show this documentary in well-known universities, the more people will get the chance to better analyze the world and its cultures.
