Bahçeşehir University campus was opened in Berlin

BERLIN – Bahçeşehir University (BAU) which has cooperative agreements with 186 universities from 35 of the world’s countries opened the Berlin Campus.  BAU Board of Trustees Chairman Enver Yücel, who gave a speech in the opening ceremony, stated that they came to Berlin to compete with the universities in the European Union (EU). Mr. Yücel stated that the classes will begin with 150 students on 24 September. He also pointed out that, “Currently, we are starting with a Faculty of Architecture, a Faculty of Communication, and a Faculty of Engineering.”

Mr. Yücel, who pointed out that the Turkish universities had very significant changes in the last 20 years, also stated that, “The culture of foundation universities is very developed in our country.  We will be able to explain the benefits of the phenomenon of private universities to EU countries. We want the strides in the last 15 years in higher education in Turkey to become a model to some countries of the EU. Together, we will endeavor to have a better tomorrow.”

Chairman Yücel, who stated that BAU is not a Turkish university or a university only for Turkish students, also noted that the language of instruction in Berlin will be English. Enver Yücel emphasized that BAU is rapidly becoming a world class university and this foundation is an important initiative for the history of universities in Turkey. Mr. Yücel said that the percentage of young people of Turkish origin in Germany to attend to university is very low. He continued, “Among Germans, the rate of attending colleges is 50 percent. As people of Turkish origin could not receive the Abitur, this rate is only 10 percent for Turks. We will help and guide them to earn Abiturs and to be able to attend to universities.”
