Bahçeşehir University and Medical Park Cooperate in Medicine

İSTANBUL – Bahçeşehir University (BAU) signed a cooperation agreement with one of Turkey’s biggest hospital chains – Medical Park, for the Medical School which will accept its first students in the new academic year. Bahçeşehir University School of Medicine will invest 50 million dollars for the health sector in its first year.

Bahçeşehir University Board of Trustees Chairman Enver Yücel, Medical Park Hospitals Group Board of Trustees President Muharrem Usta, Bahçeşehir University Rector, Prof. Dr. Şenay Yalçın, Bahçeşehir University School of Medicine Dean, Prof. Dr. Türker Kılıç, World Federation of Neurosurgical Societies President Prof. Dr. Peter Black and Harvard University Dana Farber Cancer Institute Genetic Specialist, Prof. Dr. Charles Stiles attended the introductory meeting which was held at Bahçeşehir University (BAU) Medical Park Göztepe Hospital Complex.

With the agreement, Medical Park Göztepe Hospital will serve as an important training and research hospital. In addition, students who choose medicine at BAU will have the opportunity to live an international experience through collaborations made with the world’s most important universities. Students, throughout their education period will have the opportunity to get one year of research at Harvard University’s Dana Farber Cancer Institute, one month of clinical internship each year at Harvard University, study and research at Geneva Heart Health Center, research at Yale University’s Neurogenetics Laboratory, study at University of Florida’s Anatomy Laboratory and conduct research in the biomedical field at Stanford University. Also, students who will take preparatory classes will receive English language training at Bahçeşehir University campuses in Washington, D.C. and Toronto.

Bahçeşehir University Board of Trustees Chairman, Enver Yücel said, “With a new leap, we opened our medical school based on a long passed decision. Our goal is of course to train the best doctors and best scientists. But if, because of the world economic crisis, important initiatives and progress cannot be made in the future in the field of health, we will be faced with terrible chaos. We need to think about the economy and health. Hence, we are making an investment. With this investment, we are thinking of investing in basic medical sciences which is the main objective of medical science. We will invest $50 million for basic medicine in the first year.  New developments are happening every day in Turkey. With this collaboration, we are now finding solutions concerning medical science in the maze in Turkey and realizing important inventions. We want to make the Bahçeşehir University Göztepe Medical Park Hospital Complex area as a very important center where the medical sciences flourish. With our collaboration with Medical Park Hospital Group, we are taking a very important step for Turkey and the world.”

Medical Park Hospitals Group Chairman, Muharrem Usta stated on this very important day, the following, “The cooperation we made between Bahçeşehir University and Medical Park Hospitals Group through an affiliation is a milestone in Turkey. This affiliation is not a cooperation arising from an ordinary need in Turkey. As BAU and Medical Park Hospitals Group we are signing a very important cooperation agreement and we will be an example for the other companies who will make such an affiliation in the coming years. In the affiliation period incipient in our country, our responsibilities are very high. The $50 million investment that will be made for basic medical sciences is a significant figure.

“Great moves have been made in Turkish industry that cost $50 million. BAU Medical School has set such a target. We are now beginning an important journey in terms of medical schools. From now on private hospitals are going to become institutions that aim to have sophisticated graduates. Everyone will see the word “private” for hospitals will be different. For this reason this cooperation with Bahçeşehir University is highly important to turn these private hospitals into education institutes. We are all set to make BAU Medical School the best medical school in Turkey.”

Bahçeşehir University President, Şenay Yalçın, stated they are trying to establish the best medical school in Turkey and aim to become a pioneer institution not only in Turkey but also in all over the world. He said, “BAU Medical School continue its clinical activities with Turkey’s biggest hospital group Medical Park and adds medical centers such as Yale, Harvard, Stanford, Florida and Geneva to its partners portfolio.” The Dean of Bahçeşehir University Medical School, Prof. Dr. Türker Kılıç, stated that they have partnered with two major parties in Turkey and said “BAU Medical School begins a journey to become the best. Our students will learn not only to become qualified doctors but also to conduct scientific research. They will work with Turkish and foreigner scientists in our research center. They will be able to take not only the TUS exam but also the USMLE exam in America. They will have a clinical internship period in their freshmen year at Harvard Medical School. Our students will, undoubtedly, contribute to Turkish medical schools becoming number one with this high quality education and carefully selected professors of ours.”
